A Queensland woman received the surprise of her life after an Instant Scratch-Its ticket she originally thought was a “dud” was actually worth $50,000.
The resident of Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast purchased the $4 ticket from a local newsagency and said she was about to throw it away after initially thinking she hadn’t won anything.
“I didn’t think I had won anything on it because initially, I thought the numbers didn’t match up,” she told officials from The Lott.

“I was very, very close to throwing it out.”
However, while taking a final look at her ticket, the woman realised she had, in fact, won $50,000.
“I went into shock,” she said.
“The ticket stayed in a safe space until I claimed it at The Lott head office.
“It’s so surreal.”
The Queenslander said she was still in shock about the life-changing prize and that she hadn’t even thought about what she would do with the money.
“I’m still shocked by the news, so I haven’t had a great think,” she said.
“I think I’ll let it stay in the bank until I’ve decided what to do.”
In the 2022- 2023 financial year there were 147 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners.
