Unclaimed prizes revealed ahead of Tuesday’s $70 million Oz Lotto draw

One of the last Oz Lotto draws of 2023 is set to be the biggest, with $70 million up for grabs.

It is expected one-in-five Aussie adults will have a ticket in the draw, with the winning numbers to be revealed on Tuesday night.

But unclaimed division one prize data from The Lott shows even the luckiest players sometimes remain empty-handed.

Over the last seven years, $18 million in prizes has gone unclaimed by Australian winners, according to The Lott, which delivered a warning to “register your entries” ahead of the mammoth draw on Tuesday.

“In Queensland, people have seven years to claim their lottery prizes, but in Victoria, people have only 12 months to claim their wins directly from us — after which time they can claim from the Victorian Government,” The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said.

“The oldest (currently) unclaimed division one win is in Queensland — a ticket purchased in Lutwyche won a Saturday Gold Lotto prize worth more than $1.3 million from a draw held in December 2016. There are only days left to claim this prize.”

The most recent unclaimed win, drawn in November, was from a ticket purchased in Bentleigh, Victoria, worth more than $653,000.

But the largest unclaimed win is more than seven times that eye-watering sum.

“The biggest unclaimed lottery win is a $4.8 million Set for Life win from April 2021 with an entry purchased in Woden in the ACT,” Hart said.

In Queensland, the lost division one winnings from seven tickets purchased in Lutwyche, Capalaba, Helensvale, Wynnum West, Springwood, Gatton, and Victoria Point — drawn between 2016 and 2019 — totals more than $4.4 million.

In New South Wales, the total lost division one winnings from seven tickets purchased in Katoomba, Sydney, Yagoona, Chipping Norton, Winston Hills, Anna Bay and Maroubra South — drawn between 2018 and 2022 — is more than $2.8 million.

In the ACT, the unclaimed division one prize money comes from the winning Woden ticket from 2021 worth $4.8 million, and a ticket purchased in Kaleen in 2022 worth $537,806.

In Western Australia, a division one winning ticket purchased in Mirrabooka in March worth $1 million remains unclaimed, and a ticket purchased the following September in Maddington won $2.5 million, and is still unclaimed.

In South Australia, one winner who purchased their ticket in Mawson Lakes in September has $1 million of unclaimed prize money.

Tuesday’s $70 million Oz Lotto

As Christmas spending ramps up, the chance to become an instant millionaire is hard to resist.

“With $70 million on the table, it’s a chance to start the new year as a multi-millionaire,” Hart said.

“I’m sure many Aussies are dreaming about what 2024 and beyond might look like with a prize of that magnitude.

“We’ll be standing by after Tuesday night’s draw waiting to reach out to any registered division one winners, so make sure you register your entries for the chance to receive that life-changing phone call.”
